We are looking for a motivated Junior Backend Developer to join our team. As part of the Sports team, you will assist in the design, development, and maintenance of backend systems supporting our BI, AI, and Machine Learning software applications. You'll collaborate with experienced developers and contribute to the creation of scalable backend solutions. About the job:
We are looking for a motivated Junior Backend Developer to join our team. As part of the Sports team, you will assist in the design, development, and maintenance of backend systems supporting our BI, AI, and Machine Learning software applications. You'll collaborate with experienced developers and contribute to the creation of scalable backend solutions. What you will be getting up to:
- Contributing to development, maintenance, and support across various business areas.
- Working as part of a team, and occasionally taking on independent development tasks as needed.
- Assisting in the planning, execution, and completion of technical projects under the guidance of senior team members.
- Collaborating with other engineers to ensure our tools meet expectations and deliver value.
- Helping to design and implement backend infrastructure that is cost-effective, secure, and reliable.
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during incidents in a timely manner.
- Learning and contributing to Agile development processes with a focus on speed to market.
- Participating in discussions around user-friendly application features and contributing ideas for improvement.
- Assisting in research and development related to artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
- Contributing to engineering efforts from planning through to execution to solve complex problems.
- Supporting cloud system development and organization. Working with IT security to ensure cloud privacy and security practices are followed.
- Responding to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Communicating effectively with leadership about risks, blockers, and timelines.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in backend development.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Familiarity with Java 11+ or Kotlin.
- Exposure to languages like Scala, Golang, Python, or Rust is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of SQL, ideally with Oracle or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with APIs, microservices, and data manipulation is a plus.
- Familiarity with distributed caching tools like Hazelcast or Redis.
- Knowledge of asynchronous messaging (e.g., Pubsub, Kafka, RabbitMQ) is a bonus.
- Some experience with Maven and Linux.
- Understanding of building scalable, high-transaction systems is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of JVM monitoring and performance tuning for Java applications.
- Exposure to cloud platforms like GCP or similar, with an interest in learning about cloud security and services.
