User Interface & Experience (UI/UX) Designer
Australian Citizen with ability to obtain baseline security clearance
Criteria
- Qualifications in UI/UX design, digital service design, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in human-centered service design with a strong understanding of the Digital Transformation Agency's Digital Service Standard.
- Proven experience in facilitating co-design workshops using appropriate design thinking techniques, tools, and methodologies.
- Ability to create and deliver high-quality service design artifacts that visually represent current and future states.
- Experience in large-scale government digital transformation projects.
- Experience working in a regulatory or government environment.
- Knowledge of Australian Government environmental reforms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
User Interface (UI) Design
- Design visually compelling and functional user interfaces for websites, web applications, and spatial/geospatial platforms.
- Create UI designs tailored for technologies such as ESRI, ArcGIS, and other geospatial tools, ensuring a balance between aesthetics and technical constraints.
- Optimize designs for accessibility and compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure inclusive and user-friendly experiences.
- Develop responsive designs that adapt seamlessly across different screen sizes and device types.
- Create interactive wireframes, prototypes, and design mock-ups to communicate design concepts effectively.
- Ensure UI designs align with user needs, project requirements, and branding guidelines.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure successful implementation of designs across various front-end technologies.
- Conduct usability testing with end users to refine UI designs.
User Experience (UX) Design
- Apply human-centered design principles to create intuitive and seamless digital experiences.
- Conduct user research to identify the needs, goals, and pain points of diverse user archetypes, particularly for spatial and geospatial platforms.
- Perform usability testing to validate design decisions and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop user personas, journey maps, and other UX deliverables to inform design decisions.
- Continuously iterate on designs based on research findings to optimize user satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with stakeholders, developers, and product owners/business owners to ensure designs are feasible and aligned with project objectives.
- Adapt designs to align with technological constraints and evolving requirements.
- Advocate for a user-first approach throughout the design and development process.
- Collaborate with internal business areas such as ICT Services and Communications to ensure adherence to enterprise frameworks and processes.
