Position Title: Network Engineer
Duration: 6+ months
Location: Vancouver, CAN
Overview: The Network Engineer will be part of a team responsible for maintaining Campus and Wide Area Network services in a 24/7, mission-critical enterprise environment and delivering information technology solutions, services, and infrastructure. This level 3 role in the Network Operations team focuses on proactive performance and capacity management, problem management, and escalation support. You will analyze processes and workflows within the existing infrastructure and network services lifecycle, including the delivery for internal and external customers, looking for ways to improve, automate, and simplify it.
Summary
Participate in supporting and configuring the company’s network environment, including switches, routers, load balancers, wireless, firewalls, WAN accelerators, and other hardware.
Make recommendations and provide daily operational maintenance of existing network infrastructure (mainly Cisco and Palo Alto)
Planning and execution of changes, assessing and mitigating risks, and following IT change control best practices for predictable results
Provide highest level operational support, triage, break/fix, and incident resolution, including response to escalations, proactively notifying customers of network issues, and assessing and communicating business impact.
Participate and collaborate in various information technology projects
Improve metrics collection on network devices and expand monitoring of network devices
Use of network tools for administration, maintenance, automation, and visualization/reporting
Prepare and maintain up-to-date documentation for internal and external customers detailing the configuration of deployed solutions
Demonstrate sound judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions and technology guidance to solve business problems and improve existing network
Requirements:
To be a true engineer, you must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Be passionate about network technology and demonstrate awareness of industry trends/direction.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
Minimum Professional level certification - Cisco CCNP or equivalent certification Network Engineering
Skills:
Minimum of 5 years of experience provisioning and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN connectivity technologies, hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls
Proven expertise in network and infrastructure principles and general network management best practices.
Good understanding of different vendor cloud platforms. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform
Proven experience with network services and dynamic routing (BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, VRF, QoS, HSRP, IPSLA, IPSec, SNMP, RADIUS, TACACS…)
Familiar with Networking Monitoring and Management Tools
Ability and desire to learn independently as well as in a team
Ability to manage time well and meet multiple deadlines
Excellent writing and communication skills
Strong technical and problem-resolution skills
Ability to work under pressure
Ability to travel to other locations as required
