Product Designer

We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our Application Innovation Team at our Research & Development Center (R&D). In this role, you will be deeply involved in understanding needs, designing, and developing new concepts and products in collaboration with SG businesses. You should be able to apply user research methodologies and in-depth design principles to understand our end users' preferences and translate those into products and solutions. You will lead efforts while working with cross-functional teams to collaborate and translate insights from customer needs into meaningful SG products. You will be responsible for keeping human centricity at the core of product design and influencing business stakeholders by advocating for user requirements in product design. Your key responsibilities will include planning and executing primary research to prepare concept sketches (to easily communicate ideas), CAD drawings and modelling, photorealistic concept rendering, and detailing for final manufacturing documents in line with the design strategy. You will apply creativity and design thinking skills to support both B2B and B2C SG business needs.

• Develop innovative yet original design solutions addressing both business and technical goals.
• Should have strong observational skills, user empathy, and the ability to highlight opportunity areas through qualitative as well as quantitative research methodology.
• Lead customer-centric product design initiatives through design thinking methodology and design-related activities.
• Drive towards creative thinking and industrial design skills competency, with market trends to provide impactful designs for great consumer experiences.
• Independently manage and collaborate on design-related assignments through internal and external design resources.
• Possess the ability to understand what customers look for in a product and evaluate product safety, appearance, and functionalities. Firsthand experience in iterative design processes through building physical prototypes/mock-ups for quick customer trials.
• Independently identify complex design problems such as the need, size, and cost of a product, anticipate production issues, develop alternatives, evaluate options, and implement solutions for overall development of project deliveries.
• Creatively articulate the insights and stories behind our design concepts.
• Ability to customize and adopt best practices of the design thinking process/methodology based on specific project requirements from various business needs.
• Should build working relationships with multiple BUs to support and facilitate specific needs through design-related activity for radical innovation.
• Applying knowledge in understanding human factors and user-centered design processes to product and service design.
• Keen interest in manufacturing processes, mechatronics, and automation is a plus.
• Presenting findings and related design/business recommendations and customer insights to senior managers and business leaders.
  
  

We Expect You Have

• Master degree in Design (M.Des, M.Tech) or equivalent Postgraduate degree in Design + Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Architecture/Electronics.Industry experience of 3-5 years is must
• Empathize and highlight end-users’ preferences through qualitative as well as quantitative research methodology.
• Should have hands on experience on trend forecasting assignments.
• Must have ability to express their design ideas or form exploration through excellent illustration or sketch and design detailing.
• Expert in handling 2D/3D design software, ability to use drawings, 3D models and CAD designs to express creative ideas.
• Experience in SolidWorks and Adobe Creative Suite a strong plus.
• Should have design sensitivity towards color, materials and finish along with basic manufacturing knowledge and design for ergonomics is must.
• Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills.
• Ability to address multiple and varied design challenges with aggressive deadlines along with performing multi- tasking and prioritizing work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Extreme attention to detail and accuracy required.
• Knowledge and practice of Industry EHS standards.
• 5S requirements with prior knowledge in ISO process is a plus.
