Primary Purpose of the Position
The Principal Engineer, Emerging Regulations is an active Goodyear representative in key technical standards & regulatory organizations. This position works with other industry members (competitors) and standards committees to develop and implement voluntary and mandatory requirements for tyres and promote an aligned Goodyear's position during these activities. This associate participates in the various standards organizations and participation in working groups, task forces and subcommittees.
This position is an expert within the company regarding global government & industry standards and upcoming regulations, and advises Tyre Technology, Product Development, Product Performance, Quality and management when required.
The tyre Industry is heavily regulated in many areas for adherence to safety, dimensional and performance requirements, either through Type approval or Self-Certification. The number of regulations has steadily increased over the last years and requirements have become more complex, with interaction between the performance and regulators. Compliance is the foundation for the successful placement of Goodyear products on the market. The role of Principle Engineer, Emerging Regulations is supporting the Goodyear position and informing regulatory and industry members on technical aspects of proposed rulemaking.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities
Education
Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, or Engineering. Master's degree is desirable.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyze the detailed requirements of new regulations and standards and their impact on our products, processes and tools.
- Identify risks and opportunities for Goodyear.
- Document new regulatory requirements in our Quality System / repositories and support the different stakeholders.
- Verify that the functions take the adequate steps to meet the new requirements and develop/adapt Goodyear processes and tools.
- Ensure that new standards / regulatory requirements are taken into account in new product developments and for current products.
- Assist in the development of new requirements by working in industry organizations, with competitors, regulators and various standards organizations globally. Advocate Goodyear position within trade and standards organizations.
- Represent Goodyear in identified Trade associations (ETRTO, T&RA, ETRMA, USTMA, UNECE GRBP/GRPE, ISO, and some working groups).
- Communicate, Consult and Align within Goodyear on upcoming new regulations, or changes to existing regulations.
- Understand and align on the Goodyear position for emerging regulation topics.
- Ensure the different functions awareness on the coming regulations / standards and their potential implications.
- Act as regulation and standards expert, and advisor on regulatory and standard questions related to UNECE, EC/EU, national regulations and standards.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, or Engineering. Master's degree is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the automotive industry, experience in Product Development or Regulations is desirable.
- Knowledge of product evaluation methods and standards.
- Understanding of tyre development, tyre performances and the trade-offs is preferred.
- 3 years’ experience interacting with external entities is preferred.
- English is required. Any other language is an asset.
- An understanding of Homologation process and regulations.
- Great Interpersonal & Communication skills, capable of adapting to audience and delivering concise and accurate information.
- Excellent analytical skills, with an eye for details and understanding potential impacts.
- Ability to interact with external contacts, and with competitors considering competiton law requirements.
- Ability to travel - a driving licence is required.
