A Federal Government Agency is seeking experienced Data Scientist to design, analyse, and implement innovative statistical methodologies for workload and workforce modelling, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to develop a data-driven decision solution,


Key duties and responsibilities


Duties may include some or all of the following:

  • Analysis: Analysing complex datasets to identify patterns and develop heuristics for model development.
  • Model Development: Designing and developing statistical models to address specific business challenges and improve decision-making processes.
  • Algorithm Implementation: Implementing and fine-tuning heuristic algorithms to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of statistical models.
  • Probabilistic Modelling: Utilising probabilistic modelling techniques to forecast outcomes and assess risks.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Documentation: Documenting methodologies, models, and algorithms to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Communication: Communicating findings, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and effective manner.
  • Training and Mentorship: Developing and delivering training to fellow data scientists and non-statisticians in the organisation on new and novel statistical approaches relevant to the industry.
  • Regulatory and Guideline Adherence: Ensuring all statistical work aligns with Agency guidelines and regulatory requirements.


Technical skills

  1. Proficiency in programming languages - SAS, Python, R, JavaScript
  2. Familiarity with big data technologies - Cloudera, Spark, HDFS, Hive
  3. Knowledge of Machine Learning & AI
  4. Experience with statistical software - SAS, Teradata
  5. Skills in data visualisation - Tableau, Power BI
  6. Expertise in optimisation algorithms
  7. Skills in probabilistic modelling techniques
  8. Understanding of data management frameworks, legislation, & policies
  9. Ability to document technical solutions
