Data Services provides data services, statistical services, AI products and spatial (GIS) services to both internal and external clients. This position is part of the new Data Science team that is developing new tools and systems using advanced machine learning (ML) techniques, including classification, regression, natural language processing (NLP), and cutting-edge generative AI tools such as large language models (LLMs) and LLM agents.

Your Key Accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Design and implement advanced ML and AI systems to develop new tools for predictive analysis, enhancing police operations and decision-making processes.
  • Plan and guide the development of Generative AI tools to address complex challenges within law enforcement.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of AI and ML systems within the QPS environments.
  • Apply standard machine learning systems and explore new generative AI methodologies to address complex challenges within law enforcement.
  • Collaborate with various departments across the police and government to deliver a wide variety of data driven solutions, tailored to enhance public safety and internal systems.
  • Provide robust evaluation of AI solutions in all stages of development.


Role Requirements

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Data Science, AI, or related fields. With experience in real world AI applications. OR
  • A portfolio demonstrating experience in data science/AI.


Technical/ Operational/ Educational Experience

Highly Desirable

  • Proficiency in Python.
  • A solid understanding of the current state of AI research and capabilities.
  • Experience in end-to-end software development


Desirable

  • Proficiency With AWS & Cloud Computing
  • A solid understanding of the current state of AI tools.
