Loyalty is at the heart of S Group’s cooperative nature and it provides many services for the co-ops and co-op members. Our systems manage the co-op memberships, calculate monthly cashback, store digital receipts, and provide S Group-wide customer log-in, to mention a few. Concrete examples of products developed include Omat ostot, S-ID logging in to S Group digital services, S-Mobiili mobile app and loyalty benefits and payment cards in Apple Wallet – all high-volume services used by our over 4 million co-op members. We develop the services in cross-functional agile teams where developers, QA engineers, designers, data & analytics professionals and business developers work together. We are looking for 1-2 Frontend Engineer Trainees to join Loyalty team in Helsinki. The role is fixed term, and we hope you can work with us approximately between June and August. Loyalty is part of the SOK Digital Development community, where we develop web services and apps for the whole S Group - digitalizing the S Group services. Your future team includes developers, designers, QA engineers, and business, all working together as a team. This is a great opportunity for you to learn from talented professionals and gain valuable experience! We work in a hybrid setting so it would be great if you could work at our office in Ässäkeskus in Helsinki at least three days a week.
Your Responsibilities
As a Frontend Engineer Trainee your main duties during the summer will be building React components and modifying our existing microfrontends into components. In addition, you will also help to improve our developer experience by developing Backstage frontend and customizing it to be more aligned with our brand guidelines. Your tasks are mostly related to frontend using TypeScript, React, React Native, NextJS and Playwright. Senior colleagues will help and guide you throughout your training period.

You are curious and analytical, and you communicate effectively in English. You love to write code and solve problems. You respect software engineering as a team sport, so working with others is your preferred way to get things done. As our Trainee, we expect you to have 1-2 years of engineering studies behind you and a basic understanding of software engineering. While we don’t require prior work experience from the field, all coding experience counts as your advantage – especially frontend and React or React Native-related experience.

- Building capabilities for leveraging our customer data to better cater to co-op members’ individual needs
