About the project

At Illusian and the Ilkka Paananen Foundation, we want social equity and inclusion to get the attention they deserve from the tech industry. We imagine a world where nonprofits can operate as efficiently and scale as quickly as for-profit companies. A world where they have the right tools to optimize their work, use technology to their advantage, and focus entirely on putting a dent in the universe.

That vision is why we’re building the Impact Tech House, a first-of-its-kind initiative dedicated to developing technical solutions for social good. Our work focuses on impact measurement, social inclusion and equity, and mental well-being.

Impact measurement is at the heart of what we do. In collaboration with We Foundation, we’ve been developing a new kind of data platform that consolidates our expertise in impact assessment and expands these standards into new product areas. Our tools are already in use at over 50 community houses and numerous sports clubs, helping organizations track and enhance their impact.

Meanwhile, Project 5/5 is our groundbreaking collaboration with Sekasin-chat, Finland’s leading mental health chat service for young people. Working closely with OpenAI and their San Francisco headquarters, we are using advanced technologies, particularly large language models (LLMs), to make mental health support more accessible. Our goal is simple but powerful: to ensure that every child, teenager, and young adult can get the help they need, whenever they need it.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking for an experienced Product Designer to join our small, highly motivated team. This is a hands-on role where you’re responsible for making our current and future products amazing to use, setting design standards for our teams, and exploring new product innovations for social equity and inclusion.

As a core member of our team, you’ll work in a flat-hierarchy, agile environment to develop cutting-edge solutions for a critical social mission. You’ll be an essential part of product decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the product design of our existing products, ensuring a strong focus on usability while maintaining high visual standards.
• Solve problems by deeply understanding our users and transforming complexity into polished, intuitive experiences.
• Translate high-level product concepts into production-quality designs.
• Identify and explore new product opportunities by aligning user needs with impact and business goals to create innovative solutions for positive impact.
• Establish and nurture a strong design culture by implementing best practices and maintaining exceptional design standards to ensure every product delivers a delightful user experience.
• Foster effective collaboration within agile development teams.

Our ideal candidate would have

• A proven track record of designing and scaling industry-leading technical solutions.
• Exceptional design skills with a strong passion for creating delightful user experiences.
• A deep understanding of the creative process and a strong motivation for hands-on design work.
• A user- and data-focused design mentality, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative insights to inform decision-making.
• A passion for using technology to drive positive social impact.
• Fluency in English and working proficiency in Finnish.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and management skills.
• An interest in working with nonprofits and mental health-related projects.
