I am collaborating with a very exciting, incredibly well backed, start up, Biotech company with offices in Amsterdam and Zurich. They are pioneering multimodal foundation models for oncology.
They are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer / Researcher specializing in multimodal spatial omics, where you will lead projects to develop both uni- and multi-modal foundation models for transcriptomics, proteomics, and other omics data.
You will leverage spatial information to integrate different data modalities—including omics, imaging, and text—to enhance predictive capabilities and insights. Your work will be deeply collaborative, engaging with clinicians, hospital researchers, and academic partners alongside their ML Research Team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of research projects in multimodal spatial omics and oncology-focused foundation models.
- Collaborate with product teams and ML researchers to integrate foundation model capabilities into clinical applications.
- Oversee ML research initiatives, guiding team members, managing academic collaborations, setting project objectives, and ensuring successful execution.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Biology, Oncology, Omics, or a related field.
- ML Research Expertise – Strong background in machine learning research with experience in spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, or related areas. Publications in top conferences/journals (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, ICML, MICCAI) are a plus.
- Proficient in Python and experienced with PyTorch.
- Hands-on experience with training large-scale ML models.
- Strong capability in diagnosing and resolving GPU acceleration and distributed training challenges.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
