The Queensland Government has made a commitment to address poor behaviour in schools with a focus on restoring safe classrooms and delivering a zero-tolerance policy for violence, vapes and drugs in schools. The Department will deliver on this commitment under the $207 million boost to Queensland's education system by supporting schools with tools, resources and professional learning from 2025.

The Senior Project Officer, Behaviour Capability role will support the strategic implementation of initiatives associated with the project. This position has an immediate start until 3 January 2026, unless otherwise determined. Base location of these roles is Central Office, Brisbane.

Your Role

The successful applicant will:

  • Lead specialist project activities to achieve the outcomes expected of the project.
  • Coordinate project planning and support to assist with the development and implementation of department strategic initiatives. This includes current and emerging Australian government and State government initiatives.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department and other key stakeholders on issues relevant to the specific accountabilities of the role.


The Senior Project Officer, Behaviour Capability has responsibility for the following:

  • Undertake project planning, analysis, integrate project activities and evaluate the impact of projects and initiatives.
  • Develop, implement and monitor project services in consultation with stakeholders to ensure identified needs are met.
  • Research, develop, maintain and review operational policies, standards, procedures and programs to support the unit's function across the department.
  • Prepare briefing material, submissions, papers and reports.
  • Coordinate, organise, participate and promote the activities of the work unit.
  • Develop and maintain relevant links and networks with other units, other Branches within the department, other government agencies and other entities.
  • Assist in coordinating, organising and promoting the activities identified within the program.
  • Provide project advice, information and status, including preparation of correspondence, policy responses, speeches, articles, media releases and briefings for senior officers.
  • Provide secretariat support for project governance groups to ensure effective implementation of project objectives within the established timeframes and allocated budget.
  • Purchasing essential office supplies and arranging travel for project team.
  • Manage accurate record keeping and documentation procedures, which meet the department's data collection and privacy requirements, particularly as they relate to Schools and Student Support Division activities.
  • Respond to enquiries from other departmental branches regarding the activities and outputs of the division.

  • Other suitable duties, consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or nominated delegate.


The Senior Project Officer, Behaviour Capability reports to the Director, Behaviour Capability within Schools and Student Support.
