Data Scientist (Information Analysis Projects)
The IAEA is the world's centre for cooperation in the nuclear field and seeks to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
The Data Scientist (Information Analysis Projects) will support divisional initiatives in artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), with a focus on collecting and validating safeguard-relevant information.
By applying machine learning and the latest AI/ML innovations to analyze various types of unstructured data, the Data Scientist will assist the Division’s analysts by developing prototypes that explore new opportunities for safeguards information analysis. These prototypes aim to improve both efficiency and effectiveness.
Skills/Experience
- Language: English
- Asset Languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish
- Qualification: University Degree in mathematics, computer science or a related field with a focus on data science or artificial intelligence.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of experience in data science, machine learning, natural language processing or other relevant fields of work.
- Experience in machine-learning methodologies (e.g. supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, generative AI etc.) with a primary emphasis on textual and visual information
- Experience in the principles of responsible AI/ML development, including the identification of bias in models and model explainability.
- Experience integrating analytical business needs with existing IT infrastructure involving complex algorithm development.
Function:
- Contributing to information analysis and research and development projects by building functional prototypes and proofs of concept to assess the potential of AI/ML technologies in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of safeguards information analysis.
- Reviewing existing AI/ML solutions and suggesting innovative alternative approaches, considering Generative AI, Large Language Models, Multimodal Models or other recent technologies.
- Contributing to raising awareness of the benefits and risks of AI/ML methodologies and applications, including identifying potential misinformation and AI-generated content.
- Engaging with business users to identify high-impact business challenges where AI/ML can provide support ,defining the scope and communicating project results.
- Promoting the responsible use of AI/ML methodologies throughout all data scienceproject phases, focusing on transparency, fairness, and explainability.
- Keeping up-to-date with the rapid developments in the AI/ML field to incorporate the latest innovations into prototype development and testing.
- Adhering to established data science best practices and standards for implementing, testing,and evaluating machine learning algorithms.
