We are looking for a talented Application Security Engineer who is willing to relocate to join our Client’s team in Brussels, Belgium.


Role Overview

As an Application Security Engineer, you will join the Application Security & Vulnerability Management team to help ensure the secure development and deployment of applications within the organization. You will support IT development squads by implementing security measures, managing security tools, and coaching teams on secure development practices. You’ll also play a leadership role as an application security expert, driving continuous improvement on secure coding and vulnerability management practices.


Responsibilities

Major tasks:

  • Manage Jira ticket requests from squads for setting up application security tools.
  • Conduct code reviews on IT-developed applications using SAST tools.
  • Proactively assist development squads with adopting secure development practices (SecDevOps):
  • Prepare training sessions on security-related topics such as common coding mistakes.
  • Coach squads on how to use various security tools effectively.
  • Maintain the technical infrastructure of automated code reviews and open-source library evaluations:
  • Manage and update applied security and compliance policies.
  • Track and report on evaluation execution results.
  • Keep development guidelines up to date.
  • Review and address security defects and vulnerabilities.
  • Act as a leader and application security expert for the implementation of projects/changes within the team’s scope.

Minor tasks:

  • Report and follow up on security issues, collaborating with application owners for resolution.
  • Support developers in identifying and mitigating security risks and incidents.
  • Contribute to new security measures, such as detection mechanisms.


What We're Looking For

  • A degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Background in application development and an understanding of current advancement in tools and technologies.
  • Strong interest in application security with the ambition to grow into a seasoned expert within 3-5 years.
  • Thorough understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in an Agile/DevOps environment.
  • Understanding of security checks to be applied at different SDLC stages.


Mandatory Skills

  • Proficiency in up-to-date software development tools and platforms, such as Jenkins, GitLab, Maven, and Docker.
  • Core expertise in application security.
  • Interest and experience in penetration testing.
  • Awareness of network security practices.
  • Familiarity with challenges in mobile application development and testing.
