Senior Backend Engineer (Billing and Payments)

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and product-driven Senior Backend Engineer with experience in designing resilient backend systems, particularly in billing and payments. While prior experience with vector databases is not required, expertise in handling complex billing systems at scale, including payment gateway integrations, usage metering, and reporting, will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain precise billing and payment systems with a focus on scalability and accuracy.
• Work on integrating payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, PayPal) and various marketplace platforms (e.g., Shopify, Amazon).
• Create user-friendly interfaces for non-technical users such as accounting teams and customer support, ensuring accessibility.
• Extend monitoring and alerting mechanisms to ensure system reliability.
• Implement fraud detection tools and handle chargebacks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, frontend engineers, and backend engineers to improve the overall payment experience.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR) for all payment-related systems.

Requirements

• Strong product-focused mindset, understanding the impact of payments on user experience and business success.
• Proficiency in Python (with frameworks like FastAPI, Django, or Flask).
• Solid understanding of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Experience with payment processing systems, billing systems, and payment gateways.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Knowledge of distributed systems and handling high-volume transactions.
• Understanding of transaction lifecycles, chargebacks, and fraud detection.
• Exposure to event sourcing or marketplace integrations is a plus.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks like React or Vue is a bonus.
