Job Title: Network Cabling Engineer Location: Fort Shafter, Hawaii (On-site) Job Type: Project-based Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance (if required)
Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to support a structured cabling and network equipment installation project at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in network infrastructure deployment, including the installation of data drops, patch panels, telecommunication racks, and network equipment, ensuring compliance with TIA Standards and the NEC Standardized Labeling Program. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring a turn-key network solution, coordinating closely with the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) to ensure all requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities:Installation & ConfigurationInstall and configure structured cabling, including CAT6 data drops (82 drops across 31 data outlets), and label per NEC standards.Install Trilogy DL2700IC digital locks with Best Lock Core 7 Pin, ensuring proper fit and functionality.Install fire-rated 4’ x 8’ backboard, and properly bond the Primary Bus Bar (PBB) to the power panel using #6 AWG grounding cable inside ½” conduit.Convert existing electrical circuit into a dedicated L5-20R outlet, and relocate the power feed to a new 7-foot telecom rack.Install and secure telecom rack, ensuring proper grounding and labeling to comply with TIA and NEC standards.Equipment Installation & Network SetupInstall and configure two (2) Cisco 9300-48P-A switches, including power supplies, SFP modules, and 10G network modules.Install two (2) CAT6 48-port patch panels and four (4) Synergy 24-port patch boxes.Install and bond Rear Bus Bar (RBB) to the rack and connect to PBB using #6 AWG grounding cable.Install and label Protection Distribution Unit (PDU) (L5-20P to 5-20R).Testing & DocumentationPerform cable testing and certification for all newly installed CAT6 drops.Ensure labeling for all drops, patch cords, patch panels, bus bars, and network equipment is accurate and in accordance with NEC and TIA labeling standards.Firestop and label all penetrations and annular spaces in the telecom room.Provide the COR with 96 new CAT6 patch cords for deployment.Decommissioning & CleanupRemove and dispose of existing patch panels, faceplates, cabling, racks, and cabinets as directed.Repair and paint walls as necessary after removal of existing equipment.Replace any disturbed or damaged ceiling tiles (up to 4 tiles).Skills & Qualifications:5+ years of experience in network installation, structured cabling, and telecom room buildouts.Extensive hands-on experience with installation and configuration of Cisco Catalyst 9300 series switches.Proficient in TIA/EIA standards for structured cabling and telecom room setup.Familiar with NEC standards for labeling and electrical work related to network installations.Strong grounding and bonding knowledge in accordance with NEC and BICSI standards.Experience in firestopping and proper cable management.Ability to interpret and work off of technical drawings, site plans, and SOWs.Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interface directly with customers, COR, and team members.Physical ability to work on ladders, lift heavy equipment, and operate hand and power tools safely.Certifications Preferred:BICSI Technician or Installer Certification.Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher.OSHA 10 or 30 certification.Manufacturer training for structured cabling (Panduit, Leviton, etc.) a plus.Education:Associate degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be substituted.Work Environment:On-site work at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.Work in telecom rooms, ceilings, and other structured cabling environments.Some off-hours or weekend work may be required to meet project schedules.
