We’re looking for a PMO Manager who will play a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of an initiative within the ‘Future BBC’ transformation agenda. The initiative is focused on enabling a BBC that is fit for the future looking at increasing the pace of our delivery, how we can leverage market innovation and better exploit our own innovation, creating the environment for our capability to develop and scale to meet audience demands and increase the efficiency of our processes.

The PMO Manager will work closely with the Project Director and Programme Manager and is a new role in the BBC Transformation Office.

The Transformation Office supports and drives transformation activities to make change happen across the BBC, provides data driven visibility of transformation progress and builds the transformation capability and the change muscle of the organisation.

The Transformation Office is at the heart of delivering major BBC transformation through the Sustainability Programme, the DI&B Programme, Across the UK, the Enterprise Savings Portfolio and BBC Futures.

Working as part of the Transformation Office you will gain greater insight into the strategic transformation journey of the BBC, deliver and ensure accountability for change across the BBC and help to build a strong culture aligned to our values.

Main Responsibilities

The role holder will play a key part in coordination of activity of the initiative, ensuring governance, reporting, stakeholder management and other requirements are considered and implemented. This role is responsible for tracking programme deliverables, managing risks and dependencies across the initiative, and ensuring effective governance and reporting. The PMO Manager will provide structured oversight of progress across the initiative and the constituent projects, helping ensure alignment with BBC strategic priorities while enabling efficient execution. This is a highly collaborative role, requiring strong organisational and stakeholder management skills. The post holder will be expected to work with multiple teams, supporting project and business leads in delivering against milestones and providing regular updates to the all boards within the initiative governance.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience of managing a portfolio or programme management office (PMO) and managing aspects of complex programmes or projects.
  • Experience of working in high profile, complex environments with high levels of programme scrutiny and challenge.
  • An understanding of process, people and technical elements of change.
  • A good understanding of benefits management from strategy through to realisation.
  • A track record of planning, monitoring, reporting and problem solving skills – including proactively working through requirements and supporting senior leaders in meeting and surpassing them.
  • Skills in MS Project (or equivalent project software), able to create, resource and complete your own plans and review plans created by others.
  • Have proven organisational skills and a good understanding of the risks, issues and complexities inherent to major programmes whilst maintaining critical business as usual functions.
  • The ability to meet demanding deadlines, set targets and adapt to changing circumstances across a range of concurrent activities.
  • Good portfolio analysis skills and experience of researching, collating and analysing information to support decision making; comfortable presenting insights, challenging and influencing as appropriate to support effective decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with a proven ability to establish good working relationships with stakeholders and across a wide range of people and disciplines.
