Engineering Manager

Bitvavo
Netherlands · Full-time · Mid-Senior

What is the role about?

We are an exchange. System scalability, performance and engineering productivity matters in everything that we do. We empower our engineering teams by providing them with the right frameworks and tools to build high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions. We're seeking exceptional talent to join us in making this a reality.

What do we expect from an Engineering Manager?

We expect Engineering Managers to be technical leaders who coach their teams to win. A winning team delivers with high quality, at a good pace, and with high engagement; all of which are interrelated. We also expect Engineering Managers to have a product mindset, capable of working backward from business requirements and translating them into products.

How will you work with your team to make an impact?

  • Empower engineering teams to build scalable systems with strict requirements on latency, availability, and/or throughput.
  • Team up with engineering teams to uncover pain points, and then work backward to craft the best solution.
  • Enable engineering teams to fully own their systems by providing them with the capabilities to seamlessly deploy and closely observe their applications.
  • Leverage infrastructure as code and automation to build reproducible systems that are consistent across multiple environments.
  • Support your team in growing every day by providing them with constructive feedback, guidance, and sharing knowledge.

How will you be successful?

  • Product mindset. Ability to translate business requirements into efficient and scalable technical solutions, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Strong technical background with one or more programming languages. We mostly use Kotlin.
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles, capable of guiding teams to design, build, and maintain high-quality systems.
  • Experience in optimising workflows through automation and continuous improvement, ensuring streamlined processes and delivery.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills. We expect both engineering managers and engineers to talk to various stakeholders to derive requirements, drive discussions, and facilitate decision-making processes effectively.
  • High sense of ownership and accountability. We expect engineering managers to lead by example, empowering your team with freedom and responsibility.

We're far more interested in your capabilities as a manager rather than in your specific knowledge of a certain tool and/or technology. Not sure if you tick all the boxes? Let's talk.
