Scrum Master + Safe

Role Summary:

As a Scrum Master, you will be responsible for guiding our teams and management through the adoption of Agile principles and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). This role will require a balance of facilitating Scrum practices, educating teams on Agile and SAFe methodologies, and overcoming potential resistance from management. You will need to adapt Agile practices to fit our current maturity level and be ready to step beyond the typical Scrum Master role to support our organization's Agile and SAFe journey.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Facilitation and SAFe Support

• Guide and coach Scrum teams on Agile values, SAFe principles, and Scrum practices.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Retrospectives) as well as SAFe-specific ceremonies like PI (Program Increment) planning.
• Assist in synchronizing work across multiple Agile teams to ensure alignment with SAFe principles.

1. Agile and SAFe Coaching and Education

• Educate and mentor teams, stakeholders, and management on Agile and SAFe methodologies, including Lean-Agile principles.
• Conduct training sessions or workshops on Agile, Scrum, and SAFe practices to foster organizational understanding and alignment.
• Act as a champion for Agile and SAFe methodologies, serving as a change agent within the organization to promote adoption and scale Agile practices effectively.

1. Stakeholder and Management Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and management to support Agile and SAFe initiatives.
• Navigate resistance with patience and adaptability, providing clear communication on the value of SAFe and Agile methodologies.
• Work collaboratively with Release Train Engineers (RTEs) and Product Management to align Agile team outputs with overall program goals.

1. Continuous Improvement and Adaptation

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging teams to adapt, iterate, and refine Agile practices based on SAFe principles.
• Drive process improvements across the organization, adjusting practices as needed to match the company’s Agile maturity level.
• Gather and analyze feedback from teams and stakeholders to improve both Agile and SAFe practices continuously.

1. Flexibility Beyond Scrum Master Duties

• Step into additional roles as needed, such as project coordination, SAFe implementation support, or Agile coaching for non-development functions.
• Actively contribute to addressing organizational challenges that may fall outside the typical scope of a Scrum Master, particularly those unique to early Agile adoption and SAFe scaling.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, RTEs, and stakeholders to ensure the development of a customer-centric approach aligned with SAFe goals.

Key Qualifications:

• Experience: 5+ years as a Scrum Master, with experience in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environments or similar scaled Agile practices.
• Certifications: Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) and/or SAFe Practitioner (SAFe-SP) or SAFe Scrum Master (SSM).
• Skills: Strong understanding of Agile and Lean principles, with the ability to communicate effectively and navigate resistance to change in a scaling environment.
• Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and empathetic approach to managing diverse team dynamics and expectations.
• Adaptability: Demonstrated experience in adapting Agile and SAFe practices within a non-traditional or low-maturity Agile environment.
• Problem-Solving: Resilient, resourceful, and capable of overcoming obstacles, fostering a positive culture around Agile and SAFe practices.
