Senior Back End Developer - API

SENIOR Backend & APi Developer - start up culture backed by global tech firm -

Switzerland, Zurich - ON SITE. Contract

Our client is a leading tech firm that has acquired and incorporated a small start up into their own culture. This is a unique team that due to its size, is exposed to some of the best practices and best tech available to trial. Its able to develop and move fast than its parent company due to its lean size - this will suit an individual happy to work at pace.

Our client is seeking a backend API developer / backend software engineer who will design and build an advanced functionality to a mobile app / platform. You will work with outside data sources, work on bug fixing and enhancing performance. Utilising Python as the programming language and working with RESTFUL APIs, using SQL, Thrift and Graph QL potentially pending your experience. This will work towards a mapping tool so any interest in this and or imaging is welcomed (as well as experience linked to this of course).

In addition you will be involved in:

• Overseeing the transition of infrastructure between various data processing methods like batch, stream, and queue systems
• Developing, deploying, and refining Big Data processing workflows
• Upgrading their public API to address common user requirements
• Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to introduce new features and improvements, such as third-party integrations
• Integrating and managing data from external sources and APIs
• Fixing bugs and optimizing the performance of the application as mentioned previously.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Excellent foundation in computer science & algorithms
• At least 4+ years of experience with Python
• Experience with build systems such as Buck or Bazel
• Familiar with building RESTful APIs, using SQL, Thrift and GraphQL
• Familiarity with Big Data frameworks (Hive, Spark, Presto), queueing and DAG/workflow systems (Airflow equivalent)
• You have developed a track record of successfully completing projects of large scope

Advantageous experience

• C++ and Hack/PHP experience
• Experience with typed variants of Python (Pyre for example)
• Image processing or computer vision, machine learning experience
• Experience and/or Interest in maps or open data
