We are seeking a motivated and skilled Data Engineer to join our team. This individual will be pivotal in transforming raw data into valuable insights, supporting both internal users and external customers, and contributing to the evolution of our data strategy and solutions.

As a Data Engineer at wallee, you will:

Data Pipeline Development and Maintenance

• Design, build, and optimize ETL pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources, including Postgres, Athena, SAP and AWS services.


• Ensure high data availability, consistency, and performance for business-critical applications.


• Assembling large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements.


• Own and enhance existing Power BI and Metabase reports and dashboards, enabling deeper insights and empowering decision-making.


• Partner closely with the DevOps team to enhance system monitoring and analytics capabilities using tools like OpenSearch.

Collaboration and Business Enablement

• Collaborate with business units, including management and finance to make data accessible, holistic, and actionable.


• Engage in evolving wallee’s data strategy and draft a scalable, future-proof data architecture.


• Foster integration and combination of data sources to provide innovative insights for product managers and stakeholders.


• Contribute to designing and executing data-driven products for customers, such as transaction insights, advanced dashboards, and state-of-the-art data retrieval systems.


• Explore and implement predictive models, statistical analyses, and machine learning solutions to solve complex business challenges.


• Drive innovation in how wallee and its customers use data to gain a competitive edge.

We seek a candidate with a strong technical foundation who also understands the business context of their work and fosters an entrepreneurial mindset. The ideal candidate will have:

Technical Expertise

• Proven experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC), including creating, managing, and optimizing scalable and reusable configurations for cloud environments.


• Proven experience with SQL, Opensearch/Elastic, and ETL tools.


• Proficiency in data modeling and cloud platforms, especially AWS.


• Proven experience in building a data lake consisting of multiple data sources.


• Familiarity with tools like Power BI and Metabase.


• Experience working with databases like Postgres and data solutions such as Athena.


• Experience with Python or Java for data processing, automation, or working with big data frameworks.


• Bonus: Knowledge of SAP (light implementation), and predictive modeling/machine learning techniques.

• Ability to structure complex data, identify insights, and present them in a comprehensible way for various stakeholders.


• Strong problem-solving capabilities, attention to detail, and a strategic mindset.

Business Acumen

• Capacity to collaborate effectively with internal business teams and align data strategies with company goals.


• Experience in delivering data solutions tailored to the needs of both internal teams and external customers.


• Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.


• A team player who works well across different teams, including product, DevOps, and executive leadership.

Salary range: 4000 - 6000 EUR/month (before tax)
