Data Scientist

Data Scientist - Helsinki - up to 6000€/pm

My client is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a strong background in Python and data science tooling to take ownership of best practices and data management strategies within the meteorological sector.

As a key member, you will drive the vision for how data science tooling should function within a componential environment. You will be responsible for scheduling components and enabling seamless data access.

Responsibilities

• Define best practices for data science workflows and tooling
• Work with distributed computing frameworks like Dask
• Set up and maintain Jupyter Notebook environments with a Dask scheduler and evaluate this.
• Design a data visualization strategy, including tools and integration methods
• Define and standardize input data formats determining the best approach for efficiency
• Take ownership of the vision for the platform’s data science tooling
• Work in an environment leveraging Kubernetes (a plus) and AWS (beneficial)
• Support data access and management within a complex data environment (GIS experience is a bonus)

Requirements

• Experience in working with gridded data using Python (Xarray, NumPy, Pandas)
• Familiarity with various grid data formats (Zarr, NetCDF, GRIB2)
• Experience with parallel/distributed computing; Dask's expertise is a plus
• Have a strong vision for how data science tooling should be structured
• Able to define the end goals and drive success independently
• Experienced or interested in tech leadership
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and AWS is a plus
• GIS or complex data experience is beneficial
