Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $49.68 per hour.

Under the guidance of the Manager, and working alongside the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator coordinate with Internal and External Stakeholders to complete the design and construction of assigned transit infrastructure projects, for example, the Kitchener and Lakeshore West projects (work can shift to other projects/site locations), as part of the GO Expansion Project Delivery Team in a safe, timely, consistent, and cost-effective manner.

What will I be doing?

  • Oversee the project work of consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code, Site Plan Control, and internal user group requirements through all project lifecycle stages, such as design proposals and reports, contract drawings and specifications, and construction administration.
  • Coordinate and engage with a broad and diverse group of internal and external stakeholders throughout design and construction. Understand Metrolinx’s readiness, assurance, and commissioning processes and their requirements. Prepare reports, logs, and presentations on a regular basis, working collaboratively to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Plan, track, and report all capital project expenditures such as contractor invoicing, consultant fees and addenda, purchase orders, construction contracts, and change orders.
  • Participate and ensure compliance with contract document management. Assists the Project Management office and the Project Manager in ongoing risk reviews and schedule management.
  • Coordinate project changes through the applicable governance processes including the preparation of memos and other required documentation.
  • Review tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts for submission to the Procurement Team for tendering. Assists Procurement Team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants, including coordinating RFIs.
  • Understand and apply the project’s contracts. Assist with the preparation of performance evaluations for consultants and contractors.
  • Monitor site work and field activities performed by consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to design, contractual, and code requirements. Take an active role with the compliance to safety and environmental processes and regulations. Create daily records of activities and progress and identify project constraints such as property requirements, utility conflicts, and other third-party obligations.
  • Be responsible for the project’s substantial completion and commissioning for handover to the user group.


What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience is a requirement of this position.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design, and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of civil engineering, architecture, and construction.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures, and applicable contract legislation.
  • Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
  • Great organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage concurrent tasks.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is considered an asset.
  • Have a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate.
