Cloud Architect

Note: for this position, we're currently only considering candidates who are available for relocation or long business trips to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia!

We are looking for a motivated, pro-active Cloud Architect with profound hands on experience in GCP. The cloud architect will be engaged for various tasks such as but not limited to solution design, troubleshooting and overall architecture consultancy.

Our client is a state-owned closed joint-stock company based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia that offers services in aviation management. Established in 2013 by the country's General Authority of Civil Aviation it today operates all of Saudi Arabia's 29 civilian airports through its four wholly owned subsidiaries.

The client aims to accelerate the adoption of cloud computing services and seeks for the team of experts to help them shift their infrastructure to cloud.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in Cloud Architecture / Engineering roles.
• 5+ years of experience designing and implementing Google Cloud (GCP) architectures at an enterprise level.
• Proven experience in consulting and leading cloud adoption, migration, and modernization projects.
• Deep expertise in GCP services, including Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, IAM, and networking.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security, compliance, and governance best practices (IAM, VPC Security, DLP, encryption).
• Extensive networking experience, including VPC design, hybrid connectivity, VPN, Cloud Interconnect, and network security policies.
• Strong Kubernetes expertise, including managing GKE clusters, scaling, and security best practices.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or Cloud Deployment Manager).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, or Go) for automation.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and virtualization.
• Experience in hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, integrating GCP with AWS/Azure and on-premises environments.
• Deep understanding of software engineering principles and cloud-native development patterns.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of working with technical and non-technical teams.
• Upper-Intermediate or Advanced level of English.
• Google Professional Cloud Architect certification

Responsibilities:

1. Cloud Architecture & Strategy

• Define and drive the cloud architecture strategy to align with business and technical goals.

• Design scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions leveraging Google Cloud services.

• Provide architectural guidance and governance across cloud environments, ensuring best practices.

2. Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Design

• Architect GCP-based solutions, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization.

• Lead the design and deployment of hybrid and multi-cloud architectures when needed.

• Define and enforce infrastructure best practices, ensuring operational excellence.

3. Migration & Cloud Adoption

• Develop and execute cloud migration strategies, including assessment, roadmap planning, and execution.

• Design and oversee the migration of on-prem and other cloud environments to GCP.

• Optimize resource provisioning, cost efficiency, and performance tuning post-migration.

4. Security, Compliance & Governance

• Define and implement cloud security policies, including IAM, network security, and data protection strategies.

• Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, and NIST security frameworks.

• Establish cloud governance models to standardize deployments across teams.

5. Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) adoption using Terraform, Deployment Manager, or Pulumi.

• Standardize and enforce IaC best practices for scalable cloud infrastructure deployment.

• Oversee automation of cloud resource management to improve efficiency.

6. CI/CD & DevOps Enablement

• Collaborate with DevOps teams to define CI/CD strategies for cloud-native applications.

• Ensure infrastructure automation integrates with CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.

• Define DevSecOps best practices, embedding security into development pipelines.

7. Observability, Monitoring & Reliability

• Architect monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks using Google Cloud Operations Suite (Stackdriver), Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Define and enforce SLA, SLO, and SLI best practices to ensure cloud service reliability.

• Lead incident response and disaster recovery planning to minimize downtime.

8. Cost Optimization & Resource Management

• Implement cost management strategies, ensuring cloud resource efficiency.

• Leverage GCP Cost Management tools for budgeting and financial governance.

• Work with engineering and finance teams to optimize cloud spend while maintaining performance.

9. Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

• Act as a technical advisor for senior management, helping to align cloud strategies with business goals.

• Lead cross-functional collaboration with development, security, and operations teams.

• Provide thought leadership on emerging cloud technologies and industry trends.
