Sr. Network Engineer

Overview: The Senior Network Engineer plays a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of an organization's network infrastructure. This position is vital for ensuring the seamless operation of all network-related activities, which support various business functions and enhance organizational productivity. As a key player in the IT department, the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for optimizing network performance, assessing system vulnerabilities, and implementing security measures to protect sensitive data. The individual must collaborate with other IT professionals to support an efficient network environment, reducing downtime and enhancing user experience. Moreover, the Senior Network Engineer will be tasked with identifying opportunities for network improvements and leading the charge in adopting emerging technologies that align with business objectives. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and technical expertise are essential for succeeding in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network solutions to support organizational goals.
  • Manage and maintain existing network infrastructure and equipment.
  • Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Monitor network performance and recommend optimizations.
  • Implement security protocols to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure network reliability.
  • Conduct regular network assessments and vulnerability testing.
  • Document all network changes and updates in a clear, systematic manner.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior IT staff.
  • Research and implement cutting-edge networking technologies.
  • Act as a liaison between IT and other departments regarding network needs.
  • Develop and enforce network policies and procedures.
  • Manage vendor relationships for network-related purchases and services.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning for network infrastructure.
  • Prepare reports on network performance and security incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper products.
  • Experience with network security measures (VPNs, firewalls, intrusion detection systems).
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
  • Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or similar are preferred.
  • Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex networking issues and develop solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills in a team environment.
