About the Opportunity
Are you a Software Engineer with a background in optimisation, ready to take on a technically challenging and meaningful role? This is your opportunity to design and build a smart assignment engine that improves operational efficiency and decision-making in real time.
You’ll be part of a small, high-performing internal team that works across multiple domains, lifting engineering standards, exploring new solutions, and solving complex, high-impact problems. The focus is on deep technical work, hands-on coding, and mathematical modelling, bringing abstract logic and algorithms to life through software.
This is a 12-month contract offering up to $110 per hour + Super, with flexible hybrid work arrangements (roughly 3 days from home). If you’re the right fit, there’s strong potential for long-term engagement.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings a rare combination of:
- Optimisation Expertise – You’ve tackled real-world optimisation problems (such as scheduling, resource allocation, or route planning) and can guide others in this space.
- Strong Engineering Skills – You’ve built and scaled complex systems. You’re confident working in C#, or willing to transition from another language like Python, Java, C++, or MATLAB.
- Clear Communicator – You can explain complex logic and mathematical models to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You likely have 7+ years of professional experience, with at least 3 years focused on optimisation problems—but we’re open if your experience is otherwise aligned.
Experience in time-sensitive or data-rich systems is a bonus, but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Build the core optimisation engine for intelligent task or resource assignment
- Prototype models, guide technical direction, and transition proofs of concept into production code
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and subject matter experts to solve real-world challenges
- Provide input into solution design and delivery planning
- Mentor other engineers on optimisation approaches and engineering best practices
The Benefits
- Rate: Up to $110/hour + Super
- Flexibility: Hybrid work (approx. 3 days WFH)
- Scope: High-impact work, deep technical focus, and variety across multiple problem spaces
- Longevity: This role plays a key part in a larger roadmap, with strong potential to extend or move to perm
