Embedded Systems & Software Engineer

Aktyvus Photonics
Lithuania · Full-time · Entry

Aktyvus Photonics is a team of professionals with varied scientific backgrounds, all with solid experience in solid-state lasers. Our unique expertise in material science, laser component manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and laser system architecture design allows us to develop next-generation laser sources in-house. By actively incorporating additive manufacturing principles into optical system designs, we achieve innovative solutions that enhance laser size, weight, and optical performance. Additionally, Aktyvus Photonics explores novel materials to improve the capabilities and robustness of optical systems.

The Role

We are seeking an Embedded Systems & Software Engineer to integrate, process, and transmit real-time video and control data from our system to a user interface. You will work with embedded processing units (e.g., Nvidia Jetson, NXP, Raspberry Pi), cameras, sensors, electronics and networking systems to develop robust and low-latency solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Integration: Combine camera feeds, sensors, electronics and laser control into a single processing unit.
  • Embedded Processing: Work with Linux-based and RTOS-based embedded platforms (Jetson, Raspberry Pi, NXP) to process image streams, compress video, and optimize real-time performances.
  • Video Transmission & Networking: Define and implement low-latency, reliable transmission protocols to a ground station.
  • User Interface Development: Develop a desktop-based UI for operators to control cameras, laser systems, and sensor/electronics functions.
  • Optimization & Future Growth: Assess and propose better processing architectures (e.g., FPGA-based) for future iterations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Programming Languages: C, C++ (for real-time low-latency solutions), alternatively Python or C#.
  • Embedded Systems Architecture: Experience with modern embedded hardware architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-A, Cortex-M, Cortex-R) and software systems (Bare Metal, RTOS, Linux).
  • Networking & Video Streaming: Understanding of real-time data transmission, processing, encoding, and low-latency networking protocols.
  • UI Development: Ability to create desktop applications that interface with hardware and provide intuitive operator controls.
  • Systems-Oriented: Capable of designing scalable and efficient solutions.
  • Fast Learner & Problem Solver: Enjoys taking ownership and finding practical, efficient solutions.

Nice to Have (Optional Future Role)

  • Computer Vision & AI: Experience with image tracking algorithms, sensor fusion, and ML-based motion prediction (OpenCV, TensorFlow).
  • FPGA & Low-Level Processing: Long-term vision to transition tracking operations to FPGA for ultra-high-speed processing.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on cutting-edge defense and surveillance technology.
  • Be part of a rapidly growing team where you will shape the future of the product.
  • Opportunity to grow into a lead role, building and managing a technical team.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
