Would you like to build software that supports real-world investment decisions?
At the harbor front in Trondheim, COMSOL’s Norwegian development team has been building advanced software for economic analysis and risk modelling for over 20 years. The solution is currently used by a major international energy company – among others – and plays a vital role in high-stakes investment decisions.
The team is now entering an exciting new phase: transforming the software from tailored solutions into a scalable commercial product. To support this journey, we are looking to expand the team with several skilled developers.
The Role
As a fullstack developer at COMSOL, you’ll join a stable, experienced in-house team that collaborates closely on a shared product – without the constant churn of deadlines or shifting client projects. You’ll have the space to think long-term, write clean, maintainable code, and help shape a system that’s built to last.
We work with modern development practices, including a shared backlog, daily standups, CI/CD pipelines, and code reviews. You’ll work alongside colleagues who know both the domain and the codebase deeply and are passionate about quality and continuous improvement.
The current solution is a powerful desktop application built in .NET Core / WPF. We’re now preparing for a gradual transition to cloud hosting – a process that requires care and precision due to the business-critical and highly sensitive nature of the data involved.
What we’re looking for
First and foremost, you bring solid experience in – and a genuine interest in – programming and system development. You’re comfortable navigating a fullstack environment, moving between backend, frontend, and infrastructure as needed.
You might recognize yourself in some of the following:
- Experience with one or more of these technologies: C# (.NET Core), WPF, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, MS SQL Server, Azure, Docker
- Enjoy understanding how things connect – technically and functionally
- Interested in test automation, DevOps, or cloud-based architectures (especially with a view to future as-a-service solutions)
- Appreciate thoughtful UX and workflow design, and care about how the end-user experiences the solution
- Care about code quality, peer reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing
- Motivated by contributing to architecture, specifications, or technical leadership (without needing a formal leadership title)
- Understand that precision is non-negotiable in systems like this – and take pride in getting things right
We expect you have a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a similar field – but we also recognize that practical experience can outweigh formal education. We’re open to both recent graduates and experienced developers who want to grow in a product-focused environment.
Who you are
There are many paths into this role – but we think you’ll thrive here if you enjoy deep work, meaningful challenges, and strong technical communities. You’re the kind of person who finds joy in programming, problem-solving, and building well-crafted software.
At COMSOL, you’ll join a tight-knit team of developers with a shared passion for quality and curiosity. It’s a “tech-nerd” culture in the best sense – where lunch discussions can cover everything from architecture patterns to home automation, retro games to the latest releases
What do you get from working at COMSOL?
At COMSOL, you’ll help develop a product that plays a key role in real-world decision-making at major companies – where precision, stability, and quality are essential. You’ll be part of a stable, highly skilled team with low turnover, high job satisfaction, and a workday characterized by focus, collaboration, and long-term thinking.
You’ll have real influence over both technology choices and how you work, collaborating closely with colleagues who know the domain and the codebase in depth. We offer flexible working hours, modern offices with sea views at Pirsenteret in Trondheim, and the possibility of remote work by arrangement. The environment is quiet and focused – with room for both specialization and breadth.
In addition, you’ll receive competitive compensation, strong pension and insurance schemes, and the opportunity to take part in an exciting phase where a mature product is being elevated into its next generation.
