Senior Legal Counsel

What is the role about?

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in shaping Bitvavo’s next phase of growth as we expand across Europe in a rapidly evolving sector. Working as part of a dynamic legal team of 7 FTE, you will set up, strengthen, and continuously improve the legal framework of the company. Your role will involve managing and contributing to critical projects, such as supporting our licensing process throughout Europe and executing initiatives at both the legal team and management team levels.

Responsibilities

The legal team serves as the backbone of the organization, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer and collaborating closely with compliance and business stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks to support Bitvavo’s legal framework, such as:

• Securing regulatory licenses in the Netherlands and throughout the EEA
• Advising on M&A or strategic investment initiatives by Bitvavo
• Enhancing our policy framework, including contributions to AML compliance
• Resolving daily legal challenges and ensuring smooth operations
  
  

How will you be successful?

• 5-7 years of experience, ideally combining time at a high-tier law firm and in-house (providing a balance between adherence to high standards and the realities of a fast-paced company)
• The ability to independently manage and complete projects while collaborating within a team
• Experience in financial regulation or crypto-specific regulations (preferred)
• A strong affinity with or interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain is essential
• Fluency in English is essential; Dutch language skills are strongly preferred
