Starion Luxembourg provides full lifecycle engineering solutions, including design, integration and operation, for complex programmes. We supply operations and ground system engineering services for missions including Earth observation, quantum communications, scientific, navigation and space exploration helping both New Space and established organisations set up their operations infrastructure or introduce new ground segment technologies.

In this context, we are looking for a Software Engineer to work with the INT-UQKD consortium from our Windhof office, in Luxembourg.


You will contribute to the implementation elements needed to simulate and monitor internal processes and to control underlying subsystems. To achieve this, you will need to interact with an international multidisciplinary team to understand each one of the elements that compose the system, to interface with them and simulate their processes.

About the location

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Understanding the overall system, and the breakdown in different subsystems.
  • Understanding how each component interacts with the others.
  • Implementing software components that model different aspects of the system based on provided designs.
  • Implementing and deploying a software solution that provides system observability.
  • Contributing to the system technical documentation development.


Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Aerospace, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Software Engineer, preferably in an international environment (university projects and internships may be considered).
  • OR, a relevant certification/completed training course, along with at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in an international environment.
  • Professional experience in a high-level programming language such as (C/C++, Python, Rust or Java) building enterprise systems including backend software.
  • Experience with DevOps systems, implementing CI/CD workflows, including source control and automated testing.
  • Experience developing and operating in Linux environments.
  • Familiar with observability software such as Grafana, Elasticsearch, Zabbix or similar and implementing distributed systems with HTTPS/REST interfaces.
  • Being able to bridge teams with different backgrounds and technologies.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, proactive, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.


The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Experience in project execution following international standards, such as space (ECSS, CCSDS, IDSIS), military (MIL-STD, NATO) or regulatory (ETSI, ITU, 3GPP) standards.
  • Experience with mathematical modelling languages for simulation such as Matlab, Simulink, Wolfram System Modeler or similar.
  • Familiar with telecommunications systems (space or terrestrial).
  • Familiar with monitoring protocols and OS tools, such as SNMP or Syslog, and Knowledge on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology.
  • A working knowledge of another language, for example French or German.
  • NATO and/or EU Security clearances. The candidate must be willing to undergo a security clearance procedure.
  • Cybersecurity experience.
