About Your Role

Intern of the Software Longevity team ensuring Fairphone’s devices last longer with long term Android upgrades on all the Fairphone smartphones, with a special focus on the Linux Kernel development tasks.

• Position based in Fairphone's Amsterdam office,
• We expect you to come to the office 4 times per week,
• Internship duration: 10 weeks (start ASAP)
• 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

• Contribute to the Linux kernel mainlining activities of our smartphones, bringing up new functionality, resolving reliability issues,
• Contribute to our build and test infrastructure, working with our setup on Jenkins and ATS (Android Test Station),
• Support on Android upgrades of the Fairphone devices.
  
  

Your Skills & Experience

• Engineering experience on operating systems, from the Linux kernel to the highest software layers, being comfortable with C/C++ and Java. Kotlin and Rust are nice-to-have,
• Problem-solving: addressing engineering problems as they arise and employ root cause analysis to investigate issues and develop holistic solutions,
• Knowledge of Linux Kernel development and upstream kernel development,
• Experience with reading chip datasheets and schematics and being able to use that information to develop, integrate and debug device drivers is nice-to-have,
• Good knowledge of open source development.
