Senior Application Engineer

Overview: Our client is revolutionizing their data ecosystem by implementing a cutting-edge lake house architecture on Azure Data Lake. This transformation aims to enhance advanced accounting and reporting capabilities. As a Senior Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, automating, and supporting backend applications that process and transform financial and operational data from diverse sources. The emphasis is on creating high-performance, scalable data pipelines and services utilizing Python, PySpark, and the Azure ecosystem.

Contract Length: 8 months (extension possible)

Location: Zurich - hybrid

Start Date: May

Languages: English (German is a plus)

Key Responsibilities:

• Translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Design and implement backend applications and data services.
• Develop high-quality, testable code using Python and PySpark.
• Own and evolve the end-to-end application architecture.
• Integrate multiple data domains to produce reliable, compliant financial outputs.
• Ensure strong test automation and deliver production-grade code.
• Guide and mentor junior team members through peer reviews and coaching.
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies and DevOps practices.
• Support critical quarterly financial closing operations.

Your Profile:

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience: 8+ years in backend software or data engineering.
• Solid expertise in Python and PySpark for scalable backend/data processing.
• Strong experience designing Spark-based data lake solutions.
• Proficient with Azure cloud services, especially Data Lake & Databricks.
• Hands-on experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Skilled in working within Agile teams with DevOps & CI/CD practices.
• Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong commitment to delivering quality work and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
