Role overview

We’re looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the infrastructure behind textmagic.com  — a global SaaS messaging platform with main customers in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

Your main focus will be ensuring platform performance, stability, and scalability as we continue to grow. You’ll manage cloud infrastructure, improve CI/CD pipelines, and work closely with developers to deliver fast and reliable product updates. This is a key role with real impact—your work will directly affect the experience of thousands of businesses that rely on our product daily.

Key responsibilities

• Team leadership: Guide, support, and mentor a team of DevOps engineers, set priorities, and align efforts with product and engineering goals
• Infrastructure strategy: Define and evolve the architecture of our cloud infrastructure (OVH, OpenStack, bare-metal), ensuring it scales with product growth
• CI/CD ownership: Oversee the design and maintenance of CI/CD systems (GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines), ensuring fast and stable deployment cycles
• Infrastructure as code: Lead adoption and maintenance of IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible) for consistent infrastructure provisioning
• System monitoring and reliability: Improve system observability using monitoring and logging tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Loki) and lead incident response practices
• Security and compliance: Ensure infrastructure security and compliance with best practices, including DDoS mitigation and access control
• Collaboration and planning: Work closely with engineering leadership, developers, and QA to align infrastructure efforts with roadmap goals
• Automation: Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual work and improve system reliability
• Database operations: Oversee high-performance, low-latency database operations (PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and support data growth planning
• Environment management: Maintain and support multiple environments, ensuring consistency and reliability across dev, staging, and production setups

Expected qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior DevOps or DevOps lead role within a SaaS environment
• Strong Linux system administration experience for web applications
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and a clear understanding of when and why to use it
• Solid understanding of virtualization vs. containerization
• Good knowledge of networking (L2, L4, L7) and tools like tcpdump, ngrep, and iproute2
• Experience supporting full application lifecycle (prod/dev/staging/local environments)
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Gitlab) and issue-tracking tools (Jira)
• CI/CD experience: building systems and designing workflows
• Strong experience with databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience and understanding of best practices
• Experience installing and managing email servers
• Knowledge of monitoring (Zabbix, Prometheus) and log processing systems (Loki)
• Experience with config management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt)
• Fluent in both English and Russian 

Nice to have

• Background in telecom systems or messaging services (e.g. SMPP, Asterisk, Kamailio)
• Experience with PostgreSQL clustering
• Programming or scripting skills in Bash, Go
• Experience with Kubernetes in production at scale
• Familiarity with mitigating malicious traffic and managing DDoS protection
• Understanding of backend and frontend technologies such as PHP, Node.js, or Webpack
