About Us

At refinq, a Vienna, Austria-based startup, we're on a mission to quantify the risks, impacts, and dependencies of our clients' assets on climate change and biodiversity. Our team is developing a SaaS platform to analyse and manage vast amounts of geospatial and environmental data, translating the complexities of nature into corporate language. With a dedicated team of climate and environmental scientists, regulatory experts, developers, and data scientists, we're now looking for a Python Junior Backend Developer to support our backend infrastructure.

The Role

As a Python Junior Backend Developer, you will work closely with our experienced developers to support the backend development of our platform. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior developer eager to build their skills and work on meaningful projects. You’ll contribute to building scalable and efficient backend solutions while receiving mentorship from senior developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing cloud-based backend solutions in Python, focusing on performance and scalability.
• Contribute to designing and maintaining RESTful APIs, ensuring smooth integration between platform components.
• Support data management efforts by working with PostgreSQL and Azure Blob Storage, including assistance with database migrations.
• Work with geospatial data (raster and vector), including storing, managing, and modifying spatial datasets to support various platform features and queries.
• Managing cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.
• Help enhance security features and ensure the integrity of our data.
• Collaborate on maintaining code quality, testing, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
• Work in a cross-functional team, contributing your ideas and solutions to a dynamic project environment.

Ideal Candidate

• Basic experience with Python and web frameworks, ideally FastAPI (or a similar framework).
• Understanding of relational databases and ORM technologies, with some familiarity in PostgreSQL (knowing PostGIS is a plus).
• Interest or basic experience in cloud computing services (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and containerisation (Docker).
• Eagerness to learn about CI/CD processes and participate in code improvement and testing initiatives.
• Strong problem-solving mindset, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Fluent in English, with good communication skills to work in a team setting.
