About the Role - As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our backend systems. You should have a strong background in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and microservice architecture, and ideally, prior experience working with Software as a Service (SaaS) products. You will be responsible for the entire software development lifecycle: Design → Develop → Test → Deploy → Operate → Support. While we have dedicated DevOps and QA teams, we seek someone with a deep understanding of the full development cycle who can deliver end-to-end solutions.

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into clear, scalable, and efficient technical solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, reusable, and reliable code.
• Identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, front-end engineers, and stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance service APIs.
• Ensure the reliability, efficiency, and maintainability of backend systems.
• Advocate for best practices in coding, architecture, and cloud-based infrastructure.

Required Skills

• Education & Background: Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Industry Experience: Previous experience as a Senior Software Engineer, ideally within the FinTech sector.
• Programming Languages: Proficient in TypeScript and JavaScript (ES6+).
• Software Engineering Expertise: Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
• Architecture & Systems: Strong experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• Databases: Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (preferably MongoDB and DynamoDB).
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, S3, and EventBridge.
• Testing: Experience writing unit and end-to-end (E2E) tests to ensure robust software.
• Adaptability: Comfort working in fast-paced environments and willingness to embrace changing technologies and new challenges.

Pay range and compensation package - Up to €80,000pa

Remote Work - Please note that this role is currently remote, but we may be opening an office in Lisbon in the future and the role could require occasional time in the office so we will only consider those who are currently living in Portugal. We do not offer visa or relocation support.
