Technical Lead / Project Manager - 3 days per week - Software Engineering

This is a newly created position for a Technical Lead coming from a strong software engineering background who will act as a Technology Project Manager in this hybrid multi-facited role, to come onboard and drive the technical leadership and overall project delivery of a new Enterprise level (Application) system upgrade initiative across the organisation.

We are looking for a Technical Lead who has solid software engineering foundations and a good understadning of DevOps who will play the role as a “hands-on” Technical Project Manager who is skilled across project delivery and has a background managing projects that involve complex systems upgrade & enhancement, along with data migration and sub-system integration (DAP) considerations that involve developing new systems and processes., and you would require a strong understadning of software development to thrive and be succesful in this role.

As the "Technical" Project Manager, you would be required to be comfortable working closely with Developers, Solution Architects, and contributing "technically" and in a hands-on capacity to project manage the data migrations, systems integrations, and systems architectures discussions, acting as a "technical authority" in the room.

This role plays a pivotal role in the delivery of new technology upgrade program of work, and you would require proven systems implementation experience with knowledge of OT (Operational Technology), and Enterprise level systems (Applications) implementations, working across data migration and complex systems integrations to be successful in this role.

Day to day, you would be responsible for:

• Leverage your "technical" background acting as a hybrid Technical Lead and PM in this role, imparting your strong knowledge of software development and DevOps principals.
• The successful delivery of defined projects & programs. This includes full project life-cycle planning, plus the necessary preparation before and post project delivery phases.
• End-to-end project management of the specific technology initiatives, straddling both IT and business integration elements.
• Partake in Application development phases as a Technical Delivery Lead, whilst contributing towards systems architecture phases of the project.
• Work in alignment with the existing PMO structure set up and processes with responsibility to adhere to the overall framework.
• Project managing the technology workstream elements end-to-end within projects that cross divisions.
• Working closely in-line with the external Vendor Product company for which the system is being upgraded, therefore working with the Vendors own technical teams as well as your own internal technical teams to drive successful project delivery milestones with a view to “go Live” by the end of this year.
• Take responsibility for the detailed project scope, schedule, budget and resource plan in consultation with the project team members.
• Contribute to technical discussions, leveraging your technical background, acting as a sounding board and technical authority in the room to hold the Vendor to account, and validate and challenge and push back on the Vendor if required.
• Working closely with all stakeholders involved in projects.
• Support of business case document development as needed.
• Providing guidance to other team members assisting with support of the project.

Skills & experience required:

• You'll need come from a strong foundation in Software Development in your earlier career before moving into Technical Project Management diciplines, because if you do not fully understand the SDLC and DevOps, then this role is not for you, and would be way too technical focused for you to thrive or be successful.
• Ability to operate at a "Tech Lead' level whilst also project managing the delivery from a technical stand-point.
• Sound understanding of project management methodologies and their application, ensuring that customer satisfaction is maintained at all times (PMBOK, Prince2 etc..).
• Experience with delivering "technology" based projects, particularly in large-scale Enterprise system upgrades and enhancements, relating to data migrations, complex systems integrations, systems architectures etc..
• Industry domain knowledge in the areas of Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport, Rail will be highly regarded and would enhance your value proposition for this role.
• Project management experience with large-scale Applications & Systems integrations that impact business processes is desirable, and an understanding of Operational Technology (OT) would be a key asset in this role.
• Agile project delivery experience with supportive approach in driving this particular delivery model and framework.
• Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose technology issues and recommend effective solutions, whilst examining and assessing risk & reward of the business proposals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management with tact and diplomacy.
• Customer & stakeholder focused and excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills.
• Capable of fostering and maintaining a positive and collaborative culture.
• Ability to support change management elements in a dynamic working environment.

This is a unique and somewhat rare opportunity to be able to secure a flexible 3 day per week contract role that may play towards your current personal circumstances and part-time availability, and we expect this contract to progress through to the end of this year to achieve the key milestone “Go Live” date of this project.
