Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety the Human Resource (HR) Assistant plays a key role in supporting the proactive management of occupational and non-occupational disability claims.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety the Human Resource (HR) Assistant plays a key role in supporting the proactive management of occupational and non-occupational disability claims.
Responsibilities
- Assist with gathering relevant information for processing WorkSafeBC Claims.
- Engage injured employees in Early Return to Work and Stay at Work initiatives, escalating inquiries to the Manager or Disability Case Managers when appropriate.
- Update and maintain the Health & Safety Information System with accuracy and precision.
- Collate data, prepare and maintain reports, distribute information to appropriate partners and provide input on trends.
- Provide information and guidance to internal and external partners including Managers, Principals/Vice-Principals, Teachers, Support Staff, Union Representatives, third party vendors, and WorkSafeBC regarding health care and short-term time loss claims.
- Assist in the ongoing development of the District’s Early Return to Work and Recover at Work Program, policies and practices.
- Provide back up support for other employee groups within the Health & Safety Department.
- Demonstrate utmost discretion in handling and disclosing confidential and sensitive information.
Education & Experience
- Certificate or diploma in Human Resources, or relevant post-secondary program in Occupational Health & Safety, Disability Management or Benefits administration and a minimum of 2 year related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience in a large-scale unionized environment is an asset.
- Experience/knowledge in one or more of these areas is an asset:
- WorkSafeBC claims management.
- Disability Management, Return to Work and Workplace Accommodation.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-volume work environment and maintain attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, and discretion.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.
- Advanced skills in Office 365 and HRIS, with an interest in learning new technologies.
- Flexible self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills.
