Principal Group Engineering Manager

Microsoft Development Center Estonia, with Offices in Tallinn and Tartu, is part of the Experiences & Devices division within Microsoft and well known for its Skype history. Today, our focus is much broader: We are building the Intelligent Conversations & Communications Cloud (IC3) which powers communication services for millions of Microsoft customers around the world across products such as Skype, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Xbox, Windows, Azure and more. Our IC3 platform is one of the largest Azure deployments worldwide and growing rapidly. We own many large-scale applications in Estonia: from real-time communications, engineering systems to commerce, payments, anti-fraud and SMS. Together with partner teams across Microsoft we build and run an intelligent fabric of communication services to empower every person and organization to achieve more.

RootTools is the team making sure you can run Teams on a device of your choosing. Our library provides unified interface for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, cloud platforms and various embedded systems. We’re also developing and maintaining a set of network interfaces, HTTP client library, AI infrastructure, telemetry, and general-purpose functionality for Teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a group of highly experienced and multi-culture engineers on products used by hundreds of millions of customers around the world
• Coordinate and lead product and feature development with partner teams across time-zones in all stages of our engineering lifecycle - from design, development and testing to delivering and experimenting.
• Drive innovations in the real-time communication domain by combining traditional approaches with modern technology advancement in cloud, big data, and artificial intelligence that enables reliable and quality real time communication experiences in large scale with high efficiency and minimal latency.
• Support our customers 24/7 and lead and participate a rotating on call duty to ensure uninterrupted services by governments, fortunate 500 enterprises, and hundreds of millions of end users.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
• People management and team leading experience, especially in a cross-functional and cross time zone settings.
• Cross platform experience is a must including Windows, Mac, Electron, Android and iOS app development (Typescript, Objective C, java).

• Knowledge and experiences in building real time communication products that are used by millions and more customers.
• Experiences in driving innovations and shaping long term business and technology investment strategies and approaches.
• Solid communication and cross team collaboration skills.
