AI Futures has been exclusively retained to search for a world-class Machine Learning Engineer in Cologne.

They are a VC-backed Mittelstand Financial Optimisation company, revolutionizing mathematical optimisation, automation, and decision-making processes in the banking, insurance, and financial sectors through cutting-edge AI and LLM technologies. The team operates in a highly agile, self-sufficient environment, where engineers are trusted with real ownership and autonomy to drive innovation from idea to production.

The Role:

• Develop and optimize AI and machine learning models, including LLMs, deep learning techniques, and mathematical optimisation algorithms to enhance automation and decision-making.
• Design scalable AI systems that solve complex optimisation challenges across core financial processes.
• Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Business Stakeholders on high-impact AI projects.
• Engage with clients to tailor solutions to their specific needs and deliver measurable value.
• Work in a lean, fast-paced environment where end-to-end ownership and rapid iteration are the norm.

The Candidate:

• 3+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer
• Masters background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or similar
• Strong foundation in mathematical optimisation and algorithmic problem-solving.
• Expert knowledge of Python and Relational databases (SQL)
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, or chatbot technologies is a plus.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid model (2 days onsite per week in Cologne).
• Fluency in German and English

Fixed salary up to €110K.
