Senior Java Consultant

Job Specification: Java Consultant (Inside IR35)

Location: Belfast

Contract Duration: Initial 6 Months (Potential for Extension)

Rate: up to £550 p/d

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Java Consultant to join our client’s team based in Belfast. This is an inside IR35 contract, initially for 6 months, with a strong potential for extension due to the scope of ongoing projects. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in Java development with a focus on low-latency systems, as well as experience in SQL and big data query platforms. Experience in the financial markets sector is highly desirable, and any exposure to Apache Beam or Google Data Flow would be a significant bonus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain high-performance Java applications, with an emphasis on low-latency requirements.
• Design, develop, and optimise SQL queries to manage and analyse large datasets effectively.
• Work with big query platforms to support data-heavy applications and processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features and improvements.
• Ensure code quality, performance, and scalability, contributing to the ongoing improvement of the development process.
• Participate in the full development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and support.
• Engage with stakeholders within the financial markets sector to ensure the software solutions meet business requirements.

Essential Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Java development in a low-latency environment.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and optimisation.
• Familiarity with big query platforms for handling large-scale data operations.
• Experience within financial markets or similar fast-paced environments.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with Apache Beam or Google Data Flow for stream and batch data processing.
• Knowledge of financial systems, including risk, trading, or regulatory systems.
• Familiarity with modern development tools and environments such as CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Agile methodologies.

• Inside IR35
• Duration: 6 months initial contract, with potential for extensions based on project demands.
• Location: Belfast-based role with possible hybrid/remote working options.
