Your role as Infrastructure Engineer
As an Infrastructure Engineer you will shape and develop our infrastructure platform and in effect create a flywheel that will accelerate the product teams developing on it.
You will have the autonomy to together with your team decide on which components and systems are needed to deliver an infrastructure platform that equals public cloud offering, but all in our own DCs with our own bare metal. You will be involved in rapid iterations and improvements to further the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cutting-edge services landscape. You will help build a high-traffic/high-load platform on which millions of transactions take place each month and is doubling each year.
Besides designing and implementing this infrastructure platform, you’ll have ample opportunities to flex your creativity and expertise. Crafting a developer experience platform, from bare metal to OS, up to application layer and transitioning our virtualized Linux infrastructure to Kubernetes. Moreover, you’ll work closely with both front-end and back-end product teams as well as the architects. Together, you’ll understand, implement, and support the needs of our products and value streams, contributing directly to our company’s innovative endeavors.
Your core responsibilities are
- You will design, implement and maintain the infrastructure platform
- You will work with our co-location partners to design and implement the right hardware in our racks
- You will work closely with software engineers to guide and provide them with best practices or help, support and implement new scalable solutions
- You will play an important role in automating traditional admin work, to make more time for innovation and efficiency
- You implement infrastructure as Code to facilitate the rapid scaling of our environment and assuring security practices
- You will maintain and improve our current infrastructure and drive the transition to Kubernetes
What do we expect from you as a new colleague
- Strong drive for automation, recognizing, analyzing and converting manual processes to automated ones
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Solid foundation in Linux administration and troubleshooting
- Experience in containerization and orchestration (Docker Swarm, k8s)
- Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines
- Incident management based on a 24/7 rotation (On-call rotation)
You recognize yourself in
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
- 4+ years of working experience in IT and preferably within a SaaS environment
- Strong communication skills in a diverse international environment
- Robust analytical + critical thinking skills, understanding and overseeing the systems landscape at both DC and cluster/node level
- Team player that is willing to back-up other team member’s work, even when outside comfort zone
- You are willing to work at the office in Rotterdam for 3 days a week
- Preferably you have knowledge of database administration (e.g. postgresql)
- Preferably you are comfortable with PHP 7+, ideally Symfony
- You have affinity for security and/or observability
