We are looking for an experienced software engineer to fill the role of Principal Engineer in our team in Helsinki. The S-kaupat team is a large cross-functional team, divided into development squads with expertise in software engineering, design and business. Our Principal Engineers work across squads focusing on engineering excellence, software development and technical planning to make the tens of thousands of customers happy now and even happier in the future.

You will work on the whole product together with our developers, other Principal Engineers and Tech Lead, designers and business developers. We work in a hybrid setting, where squads independently decide on their office days, and team members in cross-squad roles should adapt to those schedules. We expect you to be willing to work from our office Ässäkeskus in Helsinki at least 2 days per week.

The Key Elements In The Principal Engineer Role Are

• Planning and prioritization: Working on our mid-term roadmap together with business and design, conduct discovery work for the roadmap (with squads as needed), support squads with prioritization, and raise tech development topics for the entire team.
• Engineering excellence: Support squads in a cross-squad role, assist the tech lead with architectural work, contribute to key development areas and engineering excellence initiatives, identify areas needing improvement, and coach squads on engineering improvement.
• Cross-squad development: Assist squads on specific initiatives but focus on S-kaupat product level perspective and cross-squad work.
• Outcomes: Enhance engineering excellence, service quality, and delivery.
  
  

Is this you?

Your professional interests are frontend-heavy, but you are ready and willing to dive into all parts of the service. You have a product engineering mindset with a passion for quality software. You are experienced in building resilient and secure applications. To succeed you need to both have good self-leadership skills and be able to advocate the plans to the team to get everybody on board with it. You like to learn new things as well as mentor and help others to learn.

What We Hope From You

• Skills in TypeScript, Node.js and Next.js
• Experience with GraphQL APIs
• Knowledge of both Web and mobile (React Native) frontends
• Experience in developing frontend architecture
• Know-how on frontend performance
• Strong SEO understanding
• Code quality and engineering excellence vision
