Our client is a company that enables people, enterprises, and cities to harness the power of location. By making sense of the world through the lens of location, it empowers their customers to achieve better outcomes from helping a city manage its infrastructure or an enterprise optimize its assets to delivering drivers to their destination safely.

What project we have for you

Join us in tackling one of the most fascinating challenges in logistics: the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP).

Tour planning is the engine behind multi-vehicle route optimization, empowering businesses to design smarter, faster, and more driver-friendly tours.

We harness the world’s most precise and up-to-date map data, real-time traffic insights, road restrictions, and driver preferences to craft efficient and practical tours. Our mission? To transform complexity into clarity—delivering solutions that reduce travel time, cut costs, and keep logistics running like clockwork.

But we don’t stop at optimization. Our algorithms factor in every critical detail—driver preferences, delivery time windows, vehicle capacities, and compliance requirements—to ensure that every plan isn’t just efficient and adhering to required constraints. This holistic approach drives cost savings, delivery accuracy, and driver satisfaction while ensuring operations remain sustainable and compliant.

If you’re passionate about solving real-world problems at scale, developing sophisticated algorithms, and pushing the boundaries of logistics technology, this is your opportunity to shine.

About the team:

We are a diverse, passionate team of experts dedicated to solving complex logistics challenges and delivering impactful solutions. Committed to quality and innovation, we collaborate to shape the future of logistics while continuously growing our skills.

Our tech stack includes Rust, Kotlin, Python, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform—empowering us to build scalable, high-performance systems.

As a key team member, you’ll advocate for our customers, define quality standards, and help deliver solutions that truly make a difference.

Role:

As a Backend Developer, you’ll play a key role in leveraging HERE map content to extract and curate data that enhances logistics operations and enables practical, driver-friendly tours. Your work will directly impact the Tour Planning service, providing valuable geospatial insights such as traffic patterns, road attributes, restrictions, and POIs (e.g., parking, break locations, EV chargers, fuel stations). This data will be processed, structured, and exposed through REST APIs, powering our routing and optimization services.

With a strong focus on location-based technologies and clustering algorithms, you’ll develop high-performance, scalable solutions in a Rust-based codebase. Python will serve as your prototyping and experimentation tool, allowing you to test and refine innovative ideas.

This is an individual contributor role.

What you will do

  • Extract, process, and curate geospatial data from maps to create valuable datasets for logistics optimization.
  • Develop and maintain backend services that expose map-based insights (traffic, road attributes, POIs, and restrictions) via REST APIs.
  • Design and optimize clustering algorithms to structure and process large-scale map data efficiently.
  • Implement scalable and high-performance solutions in Rust, ensuring reliability and maintainability.
  • Manage relational (PostgreSQL) databases, ensuring optimized data storage and retrieval.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Tour Planning, architects, and product teams, to integrate map-driven insights into logistics workflows.
  • Leverage cloud platforms like AWS to deploy, manage, and optimize backend services.
  • Prototype and validate ideas using Python, enabling quick iteration on algorithms and data models.
  • Solve complex geospatial and routing challenges, improving efficiency for logistics and driver operations.

What you need for this

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of backend development experience, delivering scalable, data-driven solutions
  • Proficiency in Rust, with a strong focus on performance, concurrency, and systems programming
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, particularly in handling large-scale geospatial datasetsand optimizing queries
  • Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system design, particularly for geospatial data processing
  • Experience developing REST APIs and working in microservice architectures.

Will be a plus:

  • Familiarity with Python for prototyping, data processing, or research-oriented tasks
  • Experience working with geospatial data, clustering techniques, and location-based technologies
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding vehicle routing problems, logistics applications, and mapping technologies is a plus
  • A background in computational optimization, mathematical modeling, or GIS is a strong advantage
