Freelance Data Analytical Engineer

Location: Mechelen (2 days/week on-site)

The Role

As a freelance Data Analyst, you'll be the vital link between business stakeholders and the technical teams delivering data solutions. You’ll be responsible for shaping solution designs, defining data flows, and translating business questions into technical action plans. This is a hands-on role involving deep-dive data analysis, close collaboration with engineers, and responsibility for the functional integrity of data products.

Your Key Tasks

• Collaborate with Data Product Managers and business stakeholders to gather data requirements and translate them into technical specifications
• Design logical data models and map out full data flows aligned with business objectives and long-term platform strategy
• Perform thorough data analyses, mapping source-to-target transformations and ensuring documentation is complete and accurate
• Validate and challenge proposed designs in terms of scalability, cost-efficiency, and fit-for-purpose architecture
• Guide the implementation with engineers, conducting intermediate reviews and providing technical support when needed
• Define user acceptance tests and quality controls (including semantic validation)
• Support incident resolution as third-line support, coordinating with engineers and product managers
• Monitor the impact of application changes and ensure data products are updated accordingly

What You Bring

• Deep knowledge of Snowflake and strong SQL capabilities
• Experience with orchestration tools like Dagster, Airflow, or similar
• Ability to communicate insights clearly and challenge assumptions constructively in stakeholder conversations
• Strong analytical thinking and a natural problem-solver
• Fluent in English; understanding of Dutch is a strong advantage
