Fireslug Studios is starting work on new projects and wants to bolster the team in preparation.

We are looking to fill multiple audio-focused roles and welcome applications from experienced game music composers, sound designers, or versatile candidates skilled in both disciplines.

Note: Fireslug Studios is currently in a pre-funding stage, and our entire team is working remotely on a voluntary basis. We hope to offer paid in-house or freelance roles once we secure funding or on successful project release. We provide references and opportunities for portfolio development to those looking to build a career in the wider industry. Additionally, we arrange for sharing elements of your contributions professionally, subject to our non-disclosure agreement (NDA), regardless of the project’s completion state.

Responsibilities:

  • Music & Sound Design: Compose original background music and/or design high-quality sound effects that enhance the mood, tone, pacing, and interactivity of gameplay, supporting both narrative and mechanical elements.
  • Unity Audio Integration: Implement audio assets using Unity’s built-in audio components to ensure correct functionality and optimal in-game performance.
  • Audio Quality & Consistency: Edit, mix, and master audio assets to meet technical and performance requirements while maintaining consistency and balance across all audio elements in the game.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with game designers, programmers, and artists to ensure all audio elements are consistent with the game’s style, tone, and gameplay experience.
  • Participate in Feedback Cycles: Contribute to the audio direction and provide feedback on the overall soundscape of the project, ensuring the audio experience supports and enhances the game's design goals.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience as a game composer and/or sound designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing in-game music, sound effects or examples of both.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard audio software, or equivalents. (e.g., Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Audacity etc.)
  • Solid understanding of the Unity game engine, with experience integrating and optimizing audio assets using Unity’s built-in audio tools.
  • Strong understanding of interactive audio design, mixing, and audio implementation best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills for regular interaction with cross-functional teams.
  • Previous experience with project management software such as Trello, Jira, etc.

Desirable Skills:

  • Proven ability to create and implement adaptive and dynamic audio systems in games, including reactive music and soundscapes that respond to gameplay.
  • Skilled in audio programming, including scripting dynamic sound control and event triggers.
  • Proficient in designing sound for various game genres, with a focus on gameplay mechanics and environmental audio.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git, for managing audio assets.

Commitment:

  • Minimum of 12 hours per week or equivalent contributions.
  • Able to attend and contribute to weekly meetings.
  • Available to respond to questions and queries during weekdays as needed.

Benefits:

  • Profit-Sharing Opportunity: As a valued member of our team, you will have the opportunity to earn a percentage of the project's profits upon successful completion. This profit-sharing arrangement is designed to reward your contributions and align our team’s success with the success of the project.
  • Flexible Work Hours: Enjoy the freedom to structure your work schedule in a way that best suits your productivity and lifestyle, as long as project milestones and deadlines are met. We value a balanced approach to work that supports both individual well-being and team success.
  • Staff Meetups & Team-Building Events: Participate in semi-regular staff meetups to stay connected with the team, as well as team-building events where we play games together.
  • Portfolio-Friendly Workplace: You’ll have the freedom to use your work for us in your personal portfolio — with a quick thumbs-up from us first. We’re all about helping you showcase your skills while respecting project guidelines.
