UCL's department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest departments of its kind in the UK. The Department is proud to host internationally-leading research groups covering a broad range of activities and spread over several sites. Our staff and students have a diverse range of interests and expertise, covering many areas of physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science, and mathematics. Our focus is on excellent academic research in identifying new technologies and methods for diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases using medical imaging, physiological monitoring, and the development of implanted devices. We also offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.


About the role


UCL is delighted to be recruiting for a Grade 7 Human Resources Coordinator to lead the HR team in the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. They will be tasked with building and developing effective working relationships with managers and staff, which will allow the role holder to give day to day HR advice and guidance to managers and staff and have an impact influencing and supporting managers to achieve their local and the cooperate objectives.


The Human Resources Coordinator will also work closely with the HR Business Partner in supporting the implementation of people focused initiatives and activities within the department. To succeed in this role, the postholder must be a good manager of people, efficient, organised and take great care in attention to detail. In addition, the role requires interaction with many people within UCL thus a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required to execute the duties outlined.


The position is available to start from 1st January 2025. Hybrid working will be considered for working both off and on campus.


About you


The successful candidate will possess substantial experience of providing a high-quality HR administrative support in the higher education sector (or comparable working environment) and be educated to degree level or equivalent. They must be able to lead a team and line manage effectively. They will have a working knowledge of employment procedures and associated regulations and policies, as well as experience of advising on a range of staff management issues, including the monitoring of probationary periods and staff performance.


The successful candidate will possess strong organisational and administrative skills, including proficiency in IT systems such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential, along with the capability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Experience in a busy office environment, preferably within higher/further education or a teaching and learning context, is crucial.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality service, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
