Our client is a global sports agency with more than 600 staff across Europe, the US and Melbourne. Their focus is driving growth for sports properties by delivering deeper connections with fans through the intelligent use of data and technology. They work with some of the biggest sports organisations in Australia and around the world including the AFL, Cricket Australia, NFL, Premier League Football, Formula 1 and Wimbledon.

Central to their strategy is leveraging data to enhance clients' understanding of their customers and provide insights that guide strategic decision-making. They develop digital products designed to increase audiences and revenue across ticketing, participation, sponsorship, and media.

As the product team continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Native Android Engineer to join our client’s Melbourne office. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality Android applications for their sports industry clients. You will be instrumental in establishing cross-functional engineering practices, tools, and culture as our team grows.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers, to create innovative and user-friendly mobile experiences for sports fans worldwide. This role requires a deep understanding of Android development, a passion for clean code, and the ability to deliver robust solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Engineering Managers, Engineering Leads, and Product Managers to define technical scopes for global sports properties.

Engage hands-on in building and delivering comprehensive solutions for clients while setting high coding standards.

Lead and influence software architecture design both internally and with clients.

Participate actively in hiring processes for Software Engineers and refine recruitment strategies.

Advocate for an enhanced developer experience with a focus on continuous improvement.

Foster a blameless culture emphasising continuous improvement and technical excellence.

This hybrid role requires two days per week in our Melbourne office and occasional travel to client locations.

Skills:

• Over 5 years of experience in Android development.
• Expertise in Kotlin for Android development.
• Familiarity with CI/CD environments using tools like Circle CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with agile development practices and test automation (unit, integration, contract, E2E testing).
• Proficiency in monitoring application performance using tools such as Firebase, Sentry, Mixpanel, or Google Analytics.
• Strong advocacy for creating high-performance applications.
• Ability to solve problems with simplicity.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience with event-driven architecture.
• Interest in sports and the sports business.
