The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Group Risk & Compliance Directorate (GR&C) – Regulation & EIB Group Risk Department (GREG) - Capital Planning & Stress Testing Division (CPST) - Stress Testing Unit (STU), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st October 2025)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The objective of the traineeship is to provide support in stress testing activities and help in the integration of stress testing into the capital planning processes.

The 2025 Stress Testing Programme includes number of new initiatives which require new processes and calculations to be put in place.

You will support these new initiatives and will contribute to the regular stress testing activities. The traineeship will provide you with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in stress testing and develop a deeper understanding of risk management within a bank.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for providing support in all stress testing activities, with a particular focus on:

  • Customizing and fine-tuning the Climate Risk Stress Testing tool, while also contributing to the related documentation.
  • Assisting in the development of stress testing capabilities and sensitivity analyses, including expanding scope, conducting four-eye reviews, and updating documentation.
  • Supporting ongoing efforts to streamline processes, such as further automating data sourcing.

You are expected to take a proactive approach to address evolving challenges in stress testing.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or a degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer science, or Economics/Finance with a demonstrated interest in quantitative analysis;
  • Good to advanced knowledge and experience in programming, data management, and analysis skills (e.g. Python, SAS, SQL);
  • Experience in writing project-related or model-related documents would be an advantage;
  • Exposure to banking, finance, risk management or economics would be an advantage;
  • Good to advanced knowledge of MS Office software, in particular Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Knowledge of the Basel III/IV regulatory framework would be an advantage (e.g. CRR);
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
