At Hilo by Aktiia, we believe the key to improving cardiovascular health is to provide patients and physicians with a deeper understanding of the blood pressure pattern. Before Hilo, it was not possible to monitor cardiovascular health at scale.
We are an early-stage, venture-backed start-up that has raised over $96M from top-tier investors in Europe and the United States. We have developed and brought to market the world's first continuous blood pressure monitor. Our technology is based on 18 years of research by our founders at the prestigious Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM). Hilo by Aktiia's solution has been validated through extensive clinical trials and received a CE Mark as a Class IIa medical device under MDR leading to commercial access of approximately 43 countries worldwide.
To strengthen our team, we are looking for a:
SIGNAL PROCESSING ENGINEER

- Design, develop, optimize, and document advanced signal processing techniques for integration into the Hilo by Aktiia algorithms for blood pressure estimation using optical signals
- Develop and optimize embedded algorithms for optical signal quality estimation and activity tracking
- Conduct rigorous verification and validation (V&V) activities for algorithms, ensuring compliance with medical device regulations and product standards
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., software engineers, data scientists, clinical researchers) to address and solve complex technical challenges
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, or a related field
- 3+ years of medtech industry experience
- Proven experience in medical signal processing, with expertise in extracting and analyzing both time and frequency domain features from the signals
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB and C++ for algorithm development, data analysis, and signal processing tasks
- Strong ability to handle complex and noisy biomedical signals, including developing techniques to extract valuable information from them for further analysis or model integration
- Experience in implementing and validating algorithms in compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements is a plus
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams to address and solve complex technical challenges
- A creative and innovative mindset, with a drive to propose and develop novel approaches to signal processing challenges
- Highly organized and meticulous in code development and documentation, ensuring thorough traceability and clarity in compliance with medical device industry standards
- Experience in the cardiovascular field is an advantage
