As a Senior Backend Engineer in Emerging Propositions, you will get to innovate, design, build, optimize and automate software on a massive scale leveraging microservices, Kotlin, Java, AWS, Kubernetes. This role provides a unique opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of mobile, web, and backend engineers and shape the next chapter in Zalando customer experience and we will support you to grow and work with exciting modern technologies.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
Emerging Propositions teams are responsible for enabling and evolving product offerings in Beauty, Designer and Pre-owned categories. We solve customer problems related to unique customer experiences and assortment properties like high number of makeup shades, distinct presentation of luxury brands.
- Innovate, design, build and operate systems contributing to unique customer experiences used by Zalando customers in massive scale
- Together with your multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the codebases as well as operate large-scale applications leveraging Cloud Platforms
- You contribute to the full development cycle from solution planning and design to development, deployment, operations and monitorin
- Take an active role in understanding business requirements and translating them into technological solutions. Collaborate closely with Product Management (and other roles) to refine the functional requirements and build test cases to be verified during development and feature release
- Participate in code reviews and use feedback as an opportunity for growth Proactively help in the growth of juniors and peers in your team and beyond
- You keep learning and share your knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies that will help us innovate faster
- Solid command of Java, Kotlin, SQL and knowledge of software patterns and paradigms like continuous integration, test automation, deployment pipelines, and willingness to use the ones along with the team
- Track record in specifying, planning and developing microservices and data pipelines, GraphQL , REST API (OpenAPI) , Cloud Platforms (AWS, Kubernetes)
- Experience in Scala and interest in Web frontend technologies (React, Vue, Micro Frontend Architecture) is plus
- High level knowledge, interest or experience in data engineering and familiarity with S3, PostgreSQL, DAGs, data pipelines, Superset, Databricks, Airflow is plus
