The Role

As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll work across the stack to help build and scale our open-source platform. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, biologists, and ML scientists.

Whether you're fixing bugs, designing front-end components, or exploring cloud infrastructure, your contributions, you’ll contribute to real product work from day one.

What You’ll Do

• Contribute to the development of Helical’s open-source platform (both front-end and back-end).

• Collaborate with the team to integrate models and improve the user experience.

• Assist with debugging, testing, and documenting features.

• Learn about infrastructure, cloud tools, and deployment pipelines.

• Stay curious and up-to-date with trends in software, AI, and biotech.

You Might Be a Fit If You Have…

Essentials:

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or have equivalent experience).

• Familiarity with Python and front-end tools like HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

• Some experience (personal or academic) with frameworks like React, Node.js etc.

• An eagerness to learn about cloud platforms, containers (e.g. Docker), or scalable systems.

• Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity.

• Good communication skills and willingness to work in a collaborative team.

Bonus Points For:

• Interest or experience in bioinformatics, ML, or scientific computing.

• GitHub contributions or personal projects.

• Exposure to tools like Kubernetes, AWS/GCP, or CI/CD workflows.
